Speech School

My nephew Nixon who is almost
2 doesn't talk very much.

In fact he doesn't talk at all
except
for an OCCASIONAL "hi" or "dad"...

It does concern me a little
since he should have 10-15 words right now
and Nixon doesn't mimic sounds very much.
Instead he screams at high intervals or
says "uh oh" 100 times a day.

Which is completely adorable by the way.

After a little or a lot
of prodding...my sister agreed
to let me do a minor
evaluation with him.

Now there are kids that develop slower
but it is better to rule in out
just in case.

No big deal.  My brother Dallin didn't speak
until he was 4 but he did speech therapy early on
and he is the smartest in our family.

This video is to die for.

PS...gotta love
the finger in the nose...
kinda

Random Nice Guy

First off I want to give a shout out to our
amazing home teachers: Steve Killian and Evan Brinley

They are by far the best home teachers I have ever had.
They are so on top of it and we actually invite them to
things and like hanging out with them.

Evan was cracking me up during dinner.

Anyway...half way through dinner a few of
noticed that this random guy at the other
table kept looking over at us and pointing.

We didn't think much of it.
So then he comes up to us as he is leaving and
asks if we are Mormon.
What gave it away?
No alcohol, modesty, clean conversation?

So we replied yes and I could tell he
kinda wanted to stick around.

Anyway...we talk for awhile and
it would be important to note
that each person came to about
$30 a piece so you do the math.

(It was a pretty expensive restaurant
in Scottsdale.  Apparently Steve knows
of crazy places like these. )

 The bill comes...
and of course Steven refuses to let
any of us pay...and then....
 our waiter
states that the nice gentleman from the
other table
picked up our tab.

We couldn't believe it.
How amazing is that?!
I felt so bad for not talking to him more.
So we got his name: Jason Hendrix

Steve says he will try to find him
at work tomorrow.

(He works for the governor)

So I decided the next time I go to Sonic...
actually I never really go to Sonic
so more like QT or Paradise Bakery
or wherever...I am going to pick up someone's tab.

It may not be $200 worth...
but as they say...

"what comes around goes around"

or

"pay it forward"

Take your pick.

Too Fast...

This summer is going by way to fast.
I drove out to Eloy today with my boss
to meet the Special Ed. director,
principal and superintendent
and to see the schools.

I am really excited about the new year.
There are only 2 campuses this time
and they are only 5 minutes apart.
And....at the elementary school...
I have my own HUGE room, bathroom,
sink, drinking fountain, office, printer,
storage space and new materials.

I about died and went to speech heaven.
It is going to be a crazy and busy year but
I am excited.  My boss called
these 2 schools and 70+ kids
my own "baby".

Yikes.
Ready or not...
Luckily she is only a phone call away
just in case I mess someone's kid up.
JK

And I was able to go see Stacie and Graham again last week....

He is getting so big!!
